Become a Better Leader

Leadership is a life changing skill. If you want to achieve change in your community, manage a creative team, campaign on a social issue or be a senior executive in a company, having strong leadership capabilities and a clear understanding of your approach is crucial. The Association offers a range of pathways for practising leadership through taking on roles, completing awards and organising major events.

Chairing a Meeting

One of the first steps you can take in the ASC to develop yourself as a leader is to take on the role of meeting chairperson. The role of the Chair is to manage delivery of each part of the meeting so that the participants feel as comfortable as possible and the audience are as informed as they can be.

Other ASC Roles

There are plenty of opportunities for you to practice and develop your leadership skills at Club, Area, Regional and National levels. Working in any of the ASC’s official roles, you’ll find yourself working with a team, helping to develop the ASC’s development and education programmes, helping clubs succeed and grow, and organising and taking part in significant events, such as the National Conference. This is also a great chance to give back and support other speakers as they start and continue on their speaker’s journey.

ASC Leadership Awards

These Bronze, Silver and Gold awards provide focus, motivation, and recognition as you become a better leader. The National Development Officer encourages you to complete these challenges and have your achievements and learning recognised.

Evaluation and Judging Awards

High quality judging is crucial for ensuring that our competitions remain as fair and equitable as possible and these awards celebrate and enhance speakers as they become better evaluators and judges.

The Association is also always looking to drive up standards and taking on the role of judge at one of our many competitions is a powerful way to develop as a speaker.
