Club of the Month: Swindon Speakers Club

by Editorial Team Leave a Comment

Swindon Speakers Club is a longstanding club that was formed in 1981 and became a member of the ASC shortly thereafter. When we went into lockdown in March 2020, Swindon almost immediately adopted Zoom as their platform to keep club momentum and haven’t missed a meeting since.

Swindon Speakers Club has a dynamic social media presence. Their YouTube channel has an impressive number of videos going back over the years, with one of their posts reaching 226 views. They are cataloguing their speeches along with the corresponding evaluations so that anyone who is interested can see how each level is done. Similarly, their Instagram account has over 750 followers and a great mix of content including videos.  And both their Facebook and Instagram have recently showcased a series of 1-minute videos on why join a speakers club. They’ve also published their 21/22 programme well in advance and they take time to respond to and direct new enquiries carefully.

Although they’ve lost a couple of members who have set up a new club, Swindon’s hard work is paying off. They had three new visitors at their last full meeting and as they prepare to move to new premises in the new year, they have 4 new visitors lined up already.

But asked what the real secret of their success is and an insider revealed, “We are an absolutely fabulous club. We are welcoming, friendly and supportive. We all muck in and we’re all down to earth but we have great fun too”. And that’s certainly the feedback we’ve had here at the ASC too, so well done to everyone at Swindon for all your hard work and good luck with the New Year!
