New ASC Certificates

by Editorial Team 2 Comments

The certificates of achievement awarded by the ASC recognise and reward the effort and talent of our members in demonstrating their public speaking skills and developing as communicators. To live up to this responsibility our certificates must look professional and be part of an integrated journey of progression and learning. Our certificates have recently undergone a significant upgrade process detailed below:

  1. Name changes – The word interim always suggested something that was half finished so I have renamed our first certificate as “Foundation”. This is to signify that the learner now has the fundamental skills and abilities required of public speaking and has achieved something worthy in its own right rather than as a rest stop towards another certificate. This word also links well with other certification processes. The next certificate is gained on completion of the A10 Showpiece assignment and to signify its importance this award carries the letters ASC in it’s name – The ASC Certificate of Achievement.
  2. Signatures – The Foundation Certificate was the only one that didn’t carry the signature of the National President which suggested that this certificate wasn’t so important. The National Presidents’ signature is now included.
  3. Titles – A new part of the recognition that comes with each certificate is a title starting with “Speaker of the ASC” for the Foundation Certificate. I hope that members will put this title onto their CV’s and LinkedIn profiles and feel motivated to continue exploring the ASC Learning Pathway.
  4. Certificate redesign – Core ASC colours have been employed and the layout of the new certificates has been improved to reflect other awarding institutions and the value of the awards themselves.
  5. Prescription Speaking certificate – This certificate has now been updated in a similar way to the others with it’s own title and the signatures of the National President and National Education Director added.

Our certificates are now part of the “ASC Learning Pathway” and have recently been recognised and approved by the Victoria College of Music, London. Both of these developments will be discussed in subsequent posts on this blog. We are putting learning at the heart of the ASC through greater recognition of achievement and making the learning process playful and fun!
