July’s Club of the Month – Newark!

by Editorial Team Leave a Comment

It’s always a great honour to receive the nominations for Club of the Month. So many of our clubs have done and achieved such amazing things, despite the pandemic, adapting to life online, acquiring new skills and delivering educational but fun sessions. And never has this been more so than with this month’s winner.
Newark Speakers Club
July’s winner has waited very patiently for this announcement (well certainly the former club president has)…so please put your hands together for …Newark Speakers Club!
Members of Newark come from all sorts of backgrounds with a good mix of abilities. Their oldest member is over 90 and their youngest under 9.
Newark took the Covid restrictions by the horns and wholeheartedly embraced Zoom to take full of advantage of all the unexpected opportunities it offers. Their former club president. Martin Cox, worked endlessly hard reaching out to members from other clubs and the ASC inviting them to join their meetings and ensuring a diverse and educational agenda week after week. He also took the opportunity to visit other clubs to glean new ideas and material. As we now all hope to return to normal, Newark is embracing the “hybrid” approach to ensure new members and guests from further afield can carry on attending.
If you’ve attended a Newark Speakers Club meeting, you’ll know you get a warm welcome and quickly feel like you’re at home. And their new club president Phil Davenport is fast establishing a name for himself as one to watch!
Well done Newark Speakers Club for your amazing hard work and success…keep up the good work. You now go into the final (oh yes – all winners of Club of the Month will go into a Club of the Year vote off at the end of the year).
