It’s drum roll time!! Because yes, it is time to announce this month’s Club of the Month. This club got so many nominations from both within the club and from members of other clubs so they must be doing something right! All of which means, it’s an absolute pleasure to announce that May’s Club of the Month is …
EDINBURGH SPEAKERS CLUB!
Founded in 2009 by Tom Scott with Lorna Wilson as its first President, despite being a relatively young club Edinburgh SC has consistently produced competition success. Their current President Tania Ferguson was recently in the National Evaluation Finals, Euan Duthie has won multiple trophies at national level, and Tom Scott won the National Speech Contest in 2011.
National Conference 2019
National Conference at Edinburgh in 2019 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw_RhrZTebY) was a special highlight when the club, supported by Central District and lead by Past National President Tony Scott, delivered an innovative and incredibly successful event. The AGM was attended by over 60 members and finished in record time, seminars were over subscribed and delivered by international thought leaders, and the brand new “Speakers Marketplace” made even the newest members feel welcome.
Embracing Zoom
Through Zoom the club has welcomed members from across the ASC but also people from Europe, Canada, and the USA. Most excitingly, Edinburgh Speakers Club is actively supporting Altrincham Storytellers Club as they work through the process of joining the ASC and South Manchester Speakers Club who are considering re-joining ASC after the recent changes and improvements to our structure, culture, and resources.
Constantly evolving
One area that the club is particularly proud of is their combined ability to ask for feedback and change and improve accordingly. When they realised that despite consistently getting feedback that they were a high-quality club taking speaking and evaluating seriously, but their welcome was not the warmest, the club listened carefully. As a result, the entire club worked really hard to change that perception and their guests now feedback that they are one of the most friendly and inclusive clubs they have attended.
Well done to everyone at Edinburgh Speakers Club, this is a fabulous tale of success, and keep up the good work (never in doubt).
